Located in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Anticosti Island has an area of more than 7953 km2. By way of comparison, the island of Montreal has an area of 472.6 km2 and the island of Orléans, an area of 192.8 km2. Accessible by plane or boat, it is recognized for its geological and fossiliferous heritage. Moreover, Anticosti Island is in the running to be named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Also, the island is known for its very large population of deers, which makes it a paradise for hunters. It is estimated that there are more than 20 animals per square kilometer. In the village of Port-Menier, some 203 humans and hundreds of deers live side by side on a daily basis.
